Own & enjoy the Barry Goldwater house designed by Architect Paul Yaeger.

Outside Barry Goldwater's den, looking SouthEast toward Papago Mountain.

Many historical buildings are not architecturally significant and many architecturally important buildings have no historical significance other than their architecture. You are in the unique position of becoming the owner of both an important historical building and an important architectural building.

In 1836, ten years after Thomas Jefferson died, Uriah Phillips Levy purchased Monticello, which was on the verge of physical ruin, and with his nephew Jefferson Monroe Levy, restored it with the explicit intention of preserving it intact for future generations. They did this as a solemn tribute to Jefferson and all that he had accomplished, both historically and architecturally.  Many people at the time of Jefferson’s death lacked such foresight and some of them almost destroyed what is now seen as both a historical and architectural treasure. Both men were extraordinary for their commitment to a historical ideal.

Unfortunately, the hilltop home of Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater has been razed to the ground by its unappreciative new owner. Fortunately, the original drawings are available in the Paul Yaeger Architectural Archives and reconstruction of this historic house is being made available to a qualified buyer on his or her own property. A hilltop property would be the most suitable site, but is not a requirement.

Contact DennisLeeWilson@Yahoo.com to arrange an appointment to discuss the details of this project. Put GOLDWATER in the message title.

The photo in the previous message was the exterior of Barry Goldwater's personal work area in his den. Here is the interior of that same area. For orientation, locate the Soleri bell in both pictures.

And here is the view to the south that he had from his desk. The camera picked up midday glare, obscuring the South Mountain range which provides a purple backdrop along the entire vista, especially during mornings, evenings and clear days.

I use this image as my computer background from time to time. It gives me a sense of what it was like to live there. You are invited to do the same.
